A very quick note to say that I have, with much gratitude, worry and introspection, read colorblue’s recent post voicing her concerns disappointment with the recent Asian Woman Carnival and oyceter’s response to it.

I know there are questions being asked about the carnival, what it is, who is welcome, why we are here, where we are going and how are we going to get there. I’ve been writing a response to hopefully give you my personal vision of what I hope the the carnival will be, what I hope to achieve by helping to create a space like this and why I think that communal space, intra-PoC dialogue and intra-Asian dialogue, as hard work as they are, is vital in creating a strong community, in freeing ourselves from isolation and being defined by what we are not, vital in realising our own privileges and oppressions within our community and the intersections with other communities, and vital dismantling the kyriarchy, or simply, living peacefully without having to justify our identities and presence. I’m writing the post but it is slow going, it’s difficult, I don’t have ready answers and, most of all, I want to get this right.

In the meantime, I wanted to acknowledge that this conversation is happening and I will be hosting a discussion for those who have things to say very soon at the Asian Woman Carnival wordpress blog. Thank you.
